foreign languages
If you bring me a document written in a foreign language I have to be satisfied that you understand its contents before you sign it or otherwise make use of it. Many such documents are prepared in dual languages, with an English version being shown alongside the foreign language, and some are accompanied by a separate English translation. However, this is not always the case.
I can correspond and translate documents in German. I am able to work with documents in French, Italian, Spanish, Russian and Norwegian and I have some knowledge of other languages, including Welsh and Polish. Where necessary, I will liaise with a qualified translator in the preparation and translation of documents in most languages, but I do strongly encourage the use of lawyers in the foreign country to get documents prepared appropriately for meeting the legal requirements of that country, which includes providing a version that you can understand.
oaths and declarations
As a Notary I am authorised to administer oaths and take declarations as a Commissioner for Oaths.
- Affidavits are used for giving written evidence in court.
- Statutory Declarations are used for giving written evidence other than in court.
I can advise on the correct form of oath or declaration and can draw these up if required.
As a Chartered Legal Executive, my wife Ruth is also authorised to administer oaths and take declarations as a Commissioner for Oaths.
